My father was born in Canada, in 1926, however, a family split sent him to live with grandparents in Sterling in 1936. I recently found out that he
lied about his age, and joined the Royal Marines. I have also been told he was quite the boxer, and that they used to arrange bouts for him when ever they were in
a port.
I went through your list and don't see his name, but he could have been using a nickname. His name was Donald John Martin, he went by DJ mostly. He was born Nov 26th, 1926 but i am not sure what he changed that to, to join the Marines before he was supposed to. He was married in 1951 in Canada, so he was back in the country by 1948 and joined the RCAF.
My Uncle had told his children that Dad did indeed win quite a few medals, but it was a time that he never spoke to us about and something i would love to learn, to share with his grandchildren.
Thanks for any ideas or help.
